Infrared Yoga is a method of practicing Yoga during which the room is warmed by infrared lamps installed in the studio.

While we are undoubtedly familiar with hot Yoga, which involves warming up the room’s air where the class is conducted, infrared Yoga uses light to penetrate the body tissues of the person practicing it.

This is the case since practitioners can advance benefits from the heat while being free from tackling issues related to high humidity and high temperatures.

In an infrared yoga class, the temperature varies between 95 degrees F and 105 degrees F, or 35 degrees C to 40 degrees C.

Warmth in muscles enables them to relax and gain flexibility, hence enabling proper practice. Yoga done in a heated environment is not only for convenience; it has many benefits for the health of any person practicing Yoga. [1]

Benefits of Infrared Yoga

Improved Circulation

Infrared heat can extend to a warmer layer of skin and accelerate blood circulation. This is because it aids in the transportation of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, hence improving performance and speeding up muscle recovery.

Some benefits include More blood being supplied to the muscles, which relieves any muscle soreness and stiffness, allowing you to perform daily activities. [2]

Detoxification

Infrared yoga’s most significant advantage is in the body’s detoxification process.

Sudores is one of the body’s natural means of detoxification, and the heat from lamps makes sweating active compared to that of yoga exercise.

This means that each participant has an opportunity to detoxify during that particular session, enhancing their skins and overall welfare. [3]

Enhanced Flexibility

In addition, infrared heat benefits the muscles and joints, making flexible movements easy while executing these poses.

A good example is the realization by many practitioners that they are able to touch their toes—or at least they are able to do so deeper and for a longer time than in a conventional yoga class.

This flexibility can be advantageous for performance in physical activity and decrease the chances of contraction and injury. [4]

Stay Hydrated

Because infrared Yoga causes the body to sweat, drinking lots of water before, during, and after the class is essential.

Hydrate yourself well so that your body is not stressed from high temperatures and give it optimum performance.

Dress Appropriately

Shoes should be comfortable and worn with appropriate innerwear, while the rest of the body should be dressed in light, airy clothing that accommodates sweating. Do not wear thick clothes that may become unnecessary in the weather.

Listen to Your Body

Of course, the same rule applies to any type of exercise—always pay attention to your body. If you feel dizzy or hot, you must stop or change your positions.

It is important to understand that practice makes for personal encounters, and therefore, start at your own pace while doing infrared Yoga.
